TOA works in Beijing Olympic Games 2008

The National Stadium, also known as the “Bird’s Nest”, is the main stadium of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The stadium is not only used for holding sports events during the Beijing Olympic but also the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympic. Further, the highly intelligent design of the stadium also allows it to serve as an information centre and venue for holding commercial conferences.

To broadcast background music and make announcements in different broadcast zones in such busy a stadium simultaneously, a multi-functional high intelligent Public Address (PA) system is essential. Sound quality is also a critical factor for PA system to ensure the clarity of the broadcasted messages and background music. The emergency broadcast function which facilitates efficient evacuation and minimizes casualties should never be neglected. All of these requirements can be solved by using TOA’s latest audio management system, SX-2000.

The National Conference Centre located in Section B of the Beijing Olympic Park. The centre will be serving as the event venue, international broadcast centre and MPC during the Beijing Olympics.
Two sets of TOA matrix system, VX-2000 is installed in the centre. One system serves the main conference centre and another serves in the office hotel complex annex. TOA VX-2000 Matrix System complies with the safety requirement, EN-60849, which is said to be the strictest rule in the world nowadays.

The Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park located in Beijing Shunyi district adjoins the Olympic Equestrain Centre. To meet the public address requirements of the 260-hectare large facility, TOA VX-2000 Matrix system, supporting by D-901 Digital Mixers and HX-5 Compact Array Speaker System is installed.

Two sets of TOA VX-2000 Matrix system are installed. One serves the Qualifying range and another serves the Final Range. The two systems are used to BGM and announcement broadcasting under normal condition. In case of any emergency situation, the systems can switch to emergency mode with in two seconds automatically to deliver emergency broadcast.

The gymnasium is located at the east premises of the Chinese Agricultural University. It has a capacity of 8,000 seats, including 6,000 fixed and 2,000 temporary seats. A gymnasium with 23,950 square meters, TOA VX-2000 Matrix System, with D-901 Digital Mixer supporting, is installed in the gymnasium.

The Shenyang Wulihe Stadium comprises three facilities in a single location. The athletic centre includes a general sports facility, a swimming pavilion and a tennis pavilion. All of these areas are covered by TOA SX-1000, a large scale matrix system with 16-channel audio buses. The system is able to broadcast sixteen different channels simultaneously. The system is therefore particularly suitable for facilities requiring simultaneous multi-channel overlapping broadcast.

The Qingdao International Marina is a 138,000 square meter facility set on a 45 hectare site. TOA NX-100 Network Audio Adapter is employed to connect with three systems of VX-2000 Matrix System to cover large area like the marina.

The Chaoyang Sports Centre is the only designated sports centre for track and field training in 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. TOA HX-5 Compact Array Speaker System is installed to the centre. The HX-5 Compact Array Speaker System, allowing wide-range constant directivity control and directivity changes, makes it the ideal speaker system for reproducing crisp public address functionality in spaces with long reverberation times and high noise level.

The National Indoor Stadium is located in the Olympic Green Area with 18,000 seats. The stadium is slated to host competitions including gymnastics and the handball finals. TOA VX-2000 Matrix system is installed to the stadium.

The Tianjin Olympic Centre Stadium located in the south – west part of Tianjin occupying an area of 34.5 hectares with 158,000 square meters building space. A total of 1.48 billion RMB is invested in building the stadium. It has a capacity of 80,000 seats including 60,000 spectator seats, 500 VIP seats and 300 journalist seats.
To cope with the ultra large space implying ultra long distance of wiring, TOA VX-2000 Matrix System is employed to provide the solution in the Public Address area.

The Peking University Sports Hall is the first official ping-pong gymnasium ever constructed in the Olympic history. The hall features with the image of a spinning ping-pong ball which is known as the “Traditional Chinese Roof Back Bone”. TOA VX-2000 Matrix System is installed to the hall.

Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium has a total of 24,000 square meter construction area with 7,500 spectator seats. It will be used for badminton and rhythmic gymnastics competitions. TOA VX-2000 Matrix System is equipped in the gymnasium.
